Carry on or check in…

I use EasyJet enough to justify being an EasyJet Plus member — it actually saves me money, but that’s one for another time

One of the perks is being able to take a larger cabin bag

So over time I’ve built a bit of a rule:

3 nights = carry on

More than that = check a bag

But even when I go carry-on only…

on the way home, I’ll often check my bag anyway

Why?

Because by then I’m relaxed…

and I don’t want the hassle

Hassle?

Let’s start with security

Flying out of Gatwick — easy

Liquids stay in the bag, no unpacking

Coming back from most European airports… not so much

Everything out

everything back in

usually in a rush

And let’s be honest…

if you’re not travelling home with a few extra bits,

have you even had a good trip? 😊

And this is exactly where mine started to unravel

In my hotel room, everything fitted perfectly

like a neat little Tetris puzzle

At the airport…

Some problems!

Mid repack

the zip went

I just about got it closed

and even more luckily… got it home

Lesson learnt

And it’s not just security

There’s the overhead locker situation

I’m usually early to the gate (board watcher + fast walker 😄)

so I get my bag on without a problem

But watching the later boarders…

different story

On my last flight, one passenger caused absolute chaos

Row 3

no space

demanding bags were moved

Argument with the crew

raised voices

completely unnecessary

Her bag ended up in row 29

And of course…

that all plays out again when everyone’s trying to get off

So for all these reasons

I’m going to be a bit more selective with cabin baggage going forward

Because saving time or money

isn’t always worth the stress

They say life’s too short to stuff a mushroom…

I think it’s also too short to fight for overhead locker space
